East and West Wing Renovations – Carolina Hotel

Project was a complete renovation of the hallways while keeping the hallways passable.  The hallways required all plaster to be removed and framing modification for structural stability.  Floors were stabilized by modifying the beams and support columns under the hotel.  Walls were straightened.  All electric wiring, outlets and lights were replaced.  All new multi piece custom trim was fabricated and installed.  During renovation of the east wing, a raised ceiling area was discovered and during research it was found to be part of the original hotel ballroom.  The original round windows that had be boarded up were replaced providing natural light into the area.  The HVAC equipment and ducts, along with all sprinkler piping that had been installed in the area was moved to provide a full view of the ceiling.  The ceiling plaster was repaired to provide the original look of the area.  The space once had 16’ tall plaster columns – two remained but were covered in the walls.  The two remaining columns we refurbished and four new plaster columns were fabricated onsite using impression of the old columns.  Column fabrication took over a month to fabricate before installation.  At the entrance to the Carolina Vista Lounge, a multi-curved vaulted ceiling was installed.
